Mandalika Special Economic Zone as Main Economic Center

Lombok, in the province of West Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia is the concern of many investors because of the uniqueness of plants and animals. The Mandalika Special Economic Zone was inaugurated by President Joko Widodo in October 2017 for tourism promotion. Mandalika is 40 km from the provincial capital of Mataram and near Kuta Beach in the west.

Indonesia will host a world-class motor racing competition again after 1996 and 1997 the Motor Grand Prix was held at the Sentul Circuit, Bogor, Indonesia.

Why did MotoGP leave Indonesia for more than two decades? According to Lola Moenek, General Manager of Sentul International, the cause was the decline in the exchange rate of the rupiah against the US dollar during the 1996-1997 period.

The financial hurdle made the managers of Sentul decide that they could not continue the task of hosting the motor racing championship. But Dorna CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta and Director Sentul Tinton Suprapto have signed a contract that Indonesia is the location of the MotoGP championship for five years.

The return of MotoGP Lombok after more than twenty years

The government hopes a lot for the return of MotoGP after 24 years. This will improve the image of Indonesia and highlight the strengthening of the Indonesian economy in the eyes of the international world.

The competition will be held in the Special Economic Zone designed for tourism, Mandalika. In addition to MotoGP, Mandalika is also considered to host the World Superbike Championship and Motocross World Championship.

Recently Indonesia hosted the Asian Games and the Asian Para Games. Indonesia has also officially requested to host the 2032 Summer Olympics.

Cabinet Secretary Minister Pramono Anung said that what the government did was a manifestation of the vision to become the leading country in the world.

Mandalika Circuit Construction

ITDC has awarded a contract to build the Mandalika circuit road to the French company Vinci Construction Grand Projects. Vinci is also the main investor in the project besides the Asia Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB).

The superiority of the Mandalika Circuit

MotoGP 2021 will be the first motorbike racing in MotoGP history. 4.32 kilometers of track, with 18 turns and one main straight road.

The circuit covers a paddock area with 40 garages, and provides facilities for 100,000 spectators. VIP suites can accommodate more than 7,500 people.

According to ITDC President Abdulbar M. Monsoer, the uniqueness of the Mandalika circuit is the enchanting view of the Indian Ocean, lagoons, sun-powered villages, golf courses, and areas consisting of urban buildings and commercial buildings. All of these are expected to be completed in 2021.

The Advantages of being a 2021 MotoGP Host

This grand activity will give an attraction to Lombok. According to Indonesian Tourism Minister Arief Yahya this activity will attract the arrival of at least 100,000 foreign tourists. The expected result is a profit of 1 Trillion Rupiah.

The expected indirect benefit is income of more than 2 Trillion Rupiahs from broadcasting MotoGP activities over five days to two hundred countries and more than 60 television channels.
